A New York man went on a spree of sexual crimes after receiving a sweetheart plea deal in a rape case involving his teenage relative as Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg refused to throw him behind bars.

Justin Washington, 25, was given a light 30-day sentence and five years of probation after he pleaded guilty in August to a charge of coercion in his Manhattan rape case, though the charge carries a maximum penalty of 16 months to four years.

A teenage relative of Washington told police he raped her as the two watched television together.

A week before Washington was set to be sentenced for that, he engaged in a horrifying spree of sexual assaults with his last days of freedom that affected four women and one man.

The rampage began at 8.20am when Washington snuck into an 18-year-old man's apartment window, put his hands in the man's underwear and gripped his buttocks

He was originally hit in February with charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and forcible touching and thrown in jail with a $25,000 cash bond, but those charges were later downgraded to third-degree rape.

Prosecutors did not believe they had enough evidence, and Washington was freed from jail on a $12,000 bond according to the New York Post.

The rampage began at 8.20am when Washington snuck into an 18-year-old man's apartment window, put his hands in the man's underwear and gripped his buttocks while asking 'Can I get a dollar, bro?'

When the victim offered a dollar, Washington refused the bill before saying 'Never mind, you're not understanding' before fleeing through the window.

Under an hour later, Washington reportedly made his way up the fire escape of an apartment building and began knocking on the window of a 26-year-old woman's apartment, who was home with her nine-month-old child at the time.

When the woman drew her curtains back, she was met with the horrifying scene of Washington masturbating on the fire escape.

30 minutes later he entered another woman's apartment in the same building and attempted to rape her, court records show.

He pushed the 49-year-old woman onto her bed, pulled up her nightgown and masturbated, once again asking 'Can I get a dollar?'

He pried the woman's legs apart and smelled them, but she bravely bit his hand and scratched him before knocking him on the head with a hammer, causing him to flee.

Washington then went to another apartment building and managed to force his hand through a woman's bathroom window, grabbed her underwear and once again began masturbating.

The final victim of his reign of terror was a homeless woman sleeping in the lobby of an apartment building.

Washington was allegedly caught on surveillance cameras pulling down the woman's pants, touching her buttocks and masturbating, prosecutors say.

He was nabbed for the crimes two days later when NYPD's Bronx warrant squad picked him up at a homeless shelter and charged him for the spree including attempted rape, burglary, forcible touching and sexually motivated felony.

Despite the nature of his original crime against his relative, a spokesperson for Bragg's office defended the decision to offer Washington a plea deal.

'Our experienced sex crimes prosecutors conducted a thorough investigation and were in regular contact with the survivor's family throughout this case,' said spokesperson Emily Tuttle.

'Based on the evidence, we determined that this was an appropriate plea to spare the young survivor from having to testify, while holding Washington accountable for his conduct,' Tuttle continued.

But after Washington's terrifying crime spree, Tuttle said 'the investigation into this week's extremely disturbing allegations in the Bronx continues, we will determine whether to ask for a lengthier jail sentence.'

Cops were outraged about the incidents, with one Manhattan cop reportedly saying 'How does a man who rapes an innocent teenage girl walk the streets to sexually attack [five] more innocent [people], including a homeless woman?'

'These were very traumatizing crimes and he shouldn't have been allowed to walk the streets. What about the teenager?' another cop reportedly fumed, and added 'The DA should be coming up with programs for victims, not criminals.'
